This volume contains eleven articles by Greek and foreign philosophers who specialize in examining the problems and questions raised by the rapid advances in medical science and technology. The systematic investigation of these issues—now widely known as Bioethics—is not solely or strictly philosophical. Since these medical and technological developments concern human beings and human societies more broadly, it is natural that they become subjects of inquiry and reflection across all the humanities and social sciences, such as Theology, Law, Sociology, Economics, and, of course, their common foundation, Philosophy.
In other words, Bioethics is the discipline that explores these problems from the perspective of the human sciences, and for this reason it is, par excellence, an anthropological science.
