This book examines the major field crops that, in Greece, are classified as “industrial crops.” These include, among the fiber crops, cotton, flax, and hemp; tobacco; sugar beet; and among the oilseed crops, sunflower, rapeseed, sesame, safflower, and castor bean. Their importance lies both in the satisfactory income they provide to producers and in their contribution to the development of domestic industry. Other field crops also have industrial applications, but they are categorized differently depending on their primary use.
This volume is the second edition of the book titled Industrial Crops. The first edition covered only the three main industrial crops: sugar beet, cotton, and tobacco. In this second edition, improvements have been made and new information has been added regarding these three crops, while flax and hemp (as fiber crops) and the oilseed crops have also been included.
